Overview

I was approached by the Training Services team at the nonprofit Street Haven to design the Successful Housing Manual—a companion booklet for participants in their in-person housing stability workshops.
The program supports women experiencing or at risk of housing insecurity by building their knowledge, confidence, and decision-making skills around rental housing. Through eight interactive modules, participants learn about tenant rights, communication strategies, and practical housing tools. Completion of the program signals to landlords a strong understanding of tenancy responsibilities and a commitment to maintaining stable housing.

Balancing approachability and clarity.

The bright, high-contrast colour palette brings clarity and approachability to the material, especially for readers who may find dense content overwhelming. Inspired by educational materials that prioritize simplicity and visual navigation, each chapter is marked by its own distinct color to support wayfinding and user engagement.

Typography choices reinforce this tone: while the body text remains clean and legible, section headers and callouts use bold, slightly quirky all-caps styling to add character without overwhelming the page. The illustrations—simple renderings of homes and abstract symbols—support the content without feeling overly literal or emotionally heavy. Together, these elements create a tone that’s structured and professional, but also friendly, open, and un-intimidating.
